Scar Open Science Conference The International Conference SCAR Open Science Conference 2026 took place in Oslo, Noroway, from August 08 to 19, 2026. The SCAR Conference offer scientists from various disciplines and countries the opportunity to present their work, network and participate actively in SCAR’s scientific activities. PLAnT’s team members attended the conference and presented project results. The PI, Catarina Frazão Santos, presented a Mini-Symposium about “From Science-to-Policy: Climate-smart Marine Spatial Planning in the Southern Ocean”. Postdoc Catarina Pereira Santos presented an oral communication about “Climate-driven compression of megafauna foraging grounds in the Southern Ocean” and a Poster “Navigating the governance discourse of the Southern Ocean to inform climate-smart ocean planning”. Postdoc Francisco Borges presented other oral communication on “Using ‘climate-smart’ species distribution modelling to identify potential conflicts between human uses and biodiversity in a changing Southern Ocean” and two Posters, one digital: "Species distribution modelling in the Southern Ocean in the context of marine spatial and conservation planning”, and other presential by Julia Werdening, presented by Francisco: "Modelling the influence of anthropogenic pressures on the distribution of the humpback whale (Megaptera novaeangliae) in the Southern Ocean". PhD Student David Santos presented a digital Poster “Stakeholders’ perceptions of coastal and marine tourism in Antarctica”, Session S32: Antarctic Tourism: Aiming for a Sustainable Future.
