Our research aims to involve the Antarctic scientific community in the collective identification of places of importance and value in the Antarctic region. More specifically, we intend to identify marine and coastal areas of importance and value for scientific research and other ocean use sectors. We will ask you to identify these areas by drawing on a map and indicating the relative value of those areas to you. We will also explore perceptions regarding areas undergoing environmental and ecological change. 🌊❄️🗺️ We will use the SeaSketch platform to collect responses. SeaSketch is an interactive geographic information system tool optimised for spatial data collection and map-based discussions, widely used in spatial management and protection initiatives around the world to support stakeholder participation and engagement. Results will be used to produce scientific information to further inform Antarctic spatial management, protection, and governance under a rapidly changing world. For interested participants, we are offering co-authorship on the final scientific publication of the results in an international journal.
