INVITED TALK and conference participation
One Ocean Science Congress From June 3 to 6, 2025, the One Ocean Science Congress (OOSC) took place in Nice, France, as a Special Event dedicated to Science by the Third United Nations Ocean Conference (UNOC3). Organised by CNRS and Ifremer the congress was intended to inform UNOC3 (which took place from June 9 to 13), providing Heads of State, policymakers, and the broader society, with comprehensive scientific insights on Ocean's health and its future trajectory. The OOSC was attended by over 2,000 scientists from around the world, with 33 "town halls" (roundtables), 500 oral presentations, and 620 posters, among other events. The project PI, Catarina Frazão Santos, actively participated in the event, contributing first as an invited speaker and then with an oral communication on project PLAnT. On June 3, she was an invited speaker at the Town hall meeting "Ocean and Maritime Governance" (TM5), organised by Brice Trouillet, Sophie Lanco and Pascale Ricard, where she discussed the role of science in ocean governance, and main obstacles to the latter. The panel counted with other international experts, namely, Rafael Magris (Brazil), Ratana Chuenpagdee (Canada), Ndickou Gaye (Senegal) and Eddie Allison (Malaysia). On June 4, Catarina participated in the thematic session "Ocean Governance and Management" (T10-5), moderated by Peter Haugan, with an oral communication about project PLAnT ("Taking climate-smart science and governance to the high seas"). Other speakers were Sabrina Speich (France), Elizabeth Havice USA), Judith van Leeuwen (the Netherlands), Patrick Debels (Colombia), Erik van Doorn (Australia) and Abigail Meyer (USA).
