A new path for marine planning in Antarctica December 1st is the international Antarctica Day. This day marks the signing of the Antarctic Treaty in Washington, in 1959, by the twelve countries whose scientists were active in and around Antarctica. The Treaty entered into force in 1961, establishing that Antarctica shall be used for peaceful purposes only, and promoting freedom in scientific investigation and cooperation. To celebrate this day, the Marine and Environmental Sciences Centre (MARE) prepared a week-long action entirely dedicated to sharing the stories and science developed by its researchers in this fascinating, remote region: MARE without Boarders - What happens in Antarctica does not stay in Antarctica. As part of such action, MARE interviewed PLAnT's team members. On Day 5 - Marine Spatial Planning, Catarina Frazão Santos, Catarina Pereira Santos and Francisco Borges shared insights into the project history, ongoing activities, and upcoming adventures. Find more about it in the interview by Vera Sequeira and Joana Cardoso with PLAnT's team members and in the broader MARE's news piece below! |
